WORK IN PROGRESS -- A brief glimpse at my thesis film as of May 2009, including all three transformational phases of the character and his environment. I performed all design, animation, modeling, rigging, and surfacing. Maya, After Effects.
A short animation I did primarily as a design exercise. Two versions: dark-on-light, and light-on-dark, to see how the colors interacted. This would later turn out to be sort of an early version of portions of my thesis. I performed all design, modeling, surfacing, rigging, animation, and editing. Maya.
A set of original character animations I created for a client who was assembling a proposal for an Xbox Live Arcade 3rd person shooter title. The character is capable of normal running and strafing combat, as well as hovering upright and flying at high speeds using a jetpack. I performed all animation in Maya.
Note that some transitions are handled by the game engine, so they may not appear smooth in the playblasts at the beginning of the video.
Custom idle, run, and crouch/run animations I created in Maya and then implemented into Unreal Tournament 3 using UnrealEd.
A game animation asset intended to be used for a tile-based RTS-style game. I performed all design, animation, modeling, rigging, and surfacing (except for the small character -- "Roboter" rig by "NoLeftovers.") Maya.
A dialogue/lipsync exercise. Audio clip is from a
podcast reading of David Brin's brilliant short story,
"The Giving Plague." "Andy" rig by John Doublestein. Maya.
A dialogue/lipsync exercise. Audio clip is from the movie Pi. "Andy" rig by John Doublestein. Maya.
A cartoon animation exercise using a specialized rig. Focus was an stretchy, exaggerated motion. Audio clip is from the famous Bugs Bunny cartoon, Baton Bunny. Maya.
Western/Steampunk Technologist character model. Original design, fully modeled and textured with spec/bump maps and subsurface scattering on skin. Maya, Photoshop, BodyPaint3D.
Acting exercise. "Andy" rig by John Doublestein. Maya.
A collaborative student film produced during my time at SCAD. I filled in a number of support roles for this film, as we had an abundance of talented animators on our team. I modeled the character, did most of the texturing and lighting, constructed the sound, and acted as general tech support throughout the filmmaking process.
Other Credits: Kat Allen - Director, Story, and Animation; Luke Brewer - Dynamics and Animator; Katina Hogan - Rigging; Dennis Smith - Animation and Voice Talent.
Animation exercise featuring some experimentation with a vague narrative sequence. This is one of my earlier pieces. "pjHogan" rig by PJ Leffelman. Maya.
A very brief "cutout" style animation, done in After Effects using photographic elements. Photoshop, After Effects.
A portion of a fight scene animated using a stylized rotoscope technique. Reference and audio is from the movie Serenity. Pencil and charcoal.
A short animation created with poses referenced from life drawing. Pencil.
